School Hearing Screening Program
Supporting Student Learning, Ear Health & Wellbeing
(NSW & ACT Schools)
Why Hearing and Ear Health Matter in Schools
Healthy hearing is essential for learning, communication, and classroom participation. Even mild or temporary hearing or ear health issues can affect:
- Listening and attention in class
- Speech and language development
- Behaviour and engagement
- Academic performance
- Social interaction and confidence
Many ear and hearing concerns in children are not easily noticed in the classroom and may remain undetected without a structured screening program.
Our School Hearing Screening Program supports schools by combining hearing screening and basic ear health observation, helping identify potential concerns early and supporting student wellbeing.
What Does the Program Include?
- Hearing Screening
A quick, non-invasive screening to identify students who may have hearing difficulties and could benefit from further assessment.
- Age-appropriate and child-friendly
- No needles or discomfort
- Minimal disruption to the school day
- Screening only — not a diagnosis
- Ear Health Observation (Otoscopy)
As part of the program, we also conduct a visual ear examination using an otoscope to observe the ear canal and outer ear.
This allows us to identify common ear health concerns such as:
- Excessive ear wax (cerumen build-up)
- Signs of ear infection or inflammation
- Foreign objects in the ear canal
- Other visible ear health issues
This observation helps schools and families become aware of physical ear health issues that may affect hearing and learning.

How the School Hearing Screening Program Works
Flexible Delivery Options for Schools
We offer two delivery methods, allowing schools to choose what best suits their environment:
Option A: Portable Hearing Booth / Mobile Van
- We bring a portable sound-controlled booth or mobile van to the school
- Ideal for schools without a suitable quiet space
- Provides a controlled testing environment
- Set up on school grounds with minimal disruption
Option B: On-Site School Room
- Screenings conducted in a quiet room provided by the school
- Room must be away from playgrounds and classroom noise
- Suitable for libraries, meeting rooms, or unused classrooms
Both options meet screening requirements and ensure accurate results.
Qualified & Compliant Professionals
All screenings are conducted by trained hearing screening professionals who:
- Hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Are experienced in working with children and school environments
- Follow child-safe, respectful, and age-appropriate practices
Our organisation is also NDIS registered, reflecting our commitment to professional standards, quality, and inclusive support.
After the Screening
Following the program:
- Schools receive a clear, easy-to-understand summary
- Parents/carers are notified only if follow-up is recommended
- Students who pass require no further action
If a potential concern is identified, families are advised to seek a full hearing or medical assessment through appropriate healthcare providers.
Who Is This Program Suitable For?
- NSW & ACT public and private schools
- Primary and secondary students
- Students of all learning abilities
- Whole-school, year-group, or targeted screenings
Programs can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each school community.

Why Ear Wax Cleaning Matters
- Improves hearing clarity – Built-up wax is a common, reversible cause of hearing loss.
- Prevents infections & irritation – Trapped wax can hold moisture and bacteria, leading to otitis externa (ear infections), itching, pain, and discharge.
- Reduces tinnitus & dizziness – Excess wax can trigger ringing in the ears, imbalance, or a blocked sensation.
- Protects ear health long-term – Ignoring wax buildup can cause chronic blockages, repeated infections, and damage to the ear canal or eardrum.
The Hidden Risk of “Waiting Too Long”
If ear wax isn’t managed early, it can harden and compact, becoming harder to remove and more likely to cause complications. What starts as mild blockage can turn into persistent hearing difficulty, infections, or medical referrals later on.
